Christmas Delight

With Christmas so close and so much yet to do; I thought I’d post some of my all time favourite fashion illustrations to get everyone in the mood for a gorgeous festive season.
Celia Birtwell’s textile designs never fail to inspire me and these are classic examples of the energy of her prints.

Merry Christmas to you all; have a safe and happy time with the people you love…..
And may Santa bring you the dress of your dreams!

Rhiannon

A quick post of an amazing song; Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks singing Rhiannon. I love how it builds to such a passionate end, it is quite breathtaking. She looks so great too, very cool; I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

She walks in Beauty

This classic poem by Lord Byron captured my imagination today; oh to have this effect as you enter a room!

She walks in Beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Tea Time with Style

I was given a lovely thoughtful gift this week; it really made me smile! A friend surprised me with an exquisite tea cup and saucer which got me thinking about the simple pleasure of a cup of tea. Most days I grab a take away coffee if I feel I need a little hit to wake me up or focus me on a task. And yet this cup and saucer is just so gorgeous that I can’t imagine rushing through a tea break while using it. Instead, I prepared a tea party for one; relishing the quiet time I had to myself. The simple ritual of making and offering tea is a welcoming gesture and I think I will aim to do it more often for my own enjoyment.
So here is to savouring an aromatic tea, and being thankful for beautiful gifts and for beautiful friends.

Slowing Down To Appreciate Friends

A beautiful spring day with friends, early afternoon spent lazing around in the half-shade, a floppy hat, my favourite silk dress; I reflect on what makes the day so perfect. These are the sorts of friends who can drop around without warning, can open the fridge and help themselves, who bring flowers for no reason other than they know I love a pretty bloom. They need not be old friends or near-by neighbour friends, but they do need to be open-hearted.
Today, I am thankful for the people who help make my life a pleasure despite the speed at which it moves.

Thankful for Spring!

It is a busy time for all of us at Jiva; new shop premises, new collaboration store with Lazybones, new fabric designs coming along and a new season! Spring is now upon us and I am excited just thinking about the extra daylight and warm sunshine. It’ll mean I can do more outdoors, simple things like taking my morning coffee outside amongst the flowers, wearing a new silk dress in lively colours for a garden party or walking around the markets on a day off….bliss!
Today, I hope you can take some time to enjoy the beginning of the new season.

Magnolia Surprise

Driving to a friend’s house the other day, I took an accidental wrong turn and ended up in a little street I’d never seen before. I had to stop the car in awe upon witnessing the most magnificent magnolia tree in full bloom; it was really such an incredible sight! The petals seemed to erupt in the sky; just explode in mid-air, and hundreds more petals covered the grass below like the prettiest picnic blanket.  I am glad I took that wrong turn; it was such a lovely find.
I hope everybody gets to discover something just as lovely today!
